Happy Birthday Mom January 31, 2009

Today’s my mother’s birthday and I want to wish her a happy birthday.  What do you do when it’s one of your relatives or friends brithday?  Why not try and make a special treat for the birthday girl or boy?  Pick up a bunch of their favorite flowers?   What about a handmade card?  We don’t have to spend a lot of money to show our love and do something special to celebrate birthdays with those we love.  Happy Birthday Mom.  Hope you enjoy the fudge that I know you love and the funny birthday card (no mushy ones this year :)). ♥

Most of my friends know that I love to shop and I love a bargain even more.  On Monday night after work, I went into Michael’s Arts and Craft store, one of my favorite haunts.  If you have never been you need to check it out.  They have $1 bins filled with all sorts of fun finds.  So,when I walked in and saw the new stuff they have in their $1 bins, I couldn’t believe the jackpot I hit.  For a $1 you can get everything from scrapbooking items, thank you notes, napkins, coasters, gardening gloves and even plastic plates and bowls.

For $5, I got a shaped chipboard album, paper, a roll of ribbon, journal tags and either stickers or chipboard accent pieces.  Everything matched, so what a bonus for the side of me that likes to have everything coordinated.   You can add your own pictures, journaling and instant album.  You can break apart the album and use them as gift tags, journaling, an accent on a scrapbook page, or possibly invitations?  Lots of options and all for $1 to $5.  I also picked up something to share with a friend I knew they’d love, so how fun is it to give a treat to a friend for $1?

Target also has great finds for $1 to $2.50 as well.  I found wrapping paper, scrapbooking cards and fun tin pails or covered boxes to use for a gift box, candy or favors, all for a $1 each.

So pick up a few things for $1 or look through your own stash of stuff you already have around the house and see what you can do.   Check back again to see what I did with my fun finds and let me know how creative you were and what your fun $1 find was.

How Do You Spend a Saturday Night in January? January 25, 2009

How do you spend a Saturday night when the weather outside is frightful?  While, you gather some girlfriends, add pasta and chocolate and spend it being creative.  That’s what I did last night.  Now, my friends wouldn’t let me take their pictures – my friend ran from the room when the camera came out – so I have no pictures to share.  But we had lots of laughs, they got some scrapbooking pages done and made a couple of new friends.  So, during these tough times, why not invite a few friedns over and try and push your creative envelope?

Ready to eat, fresh from the oven

Ready to eat, fresh from the oven

There’s nothing like a good snow storm to bring out the need for comfort food.  Maybe it goes back to my childhood days, when I used to walk to the store to get a bag of chocolate chips and came home to bake cookies during a snow storm for my family.  So to me, there’s nothing like hot chocolate chip cookies from the oven during a snow storm.  While we got another 8 inches of snow today, I baked my favorite Toll House chocolate chip ccookies.   Check out the traditional Toll House Cookie Recipe from the Very Best Baking web site from Nestle.  Then head for the store, pick up a bag of your favorite chocolate chips and during the next snow storm or just for fun, try baking a batch and see the smile and joy that comes to your family when those cookies come out of the oven.  Enjoy and don’t forget the milk.

How about this cold weather? January 15, 2009

I know it’s January and I live in New England, and in Boston for over 20 years now, but can I just say with temps reaching almost Zero degrees, that I can’t wait for spring to arrive and golf season?  What about you?  Do you find it hard to get motivated during this weather?  Do you find that all you want to do is hibernate?  Me too.  🙂

While despite the cold, you can still be creative during this weather.  I know it’s a bit of a stretch, but you can do it.  During our last snow storm last weekend, after cleaning off my car, I made a batch of my favorite chicken chili from the Barefoot Contessa, which is easy to make and fills you up.  I use a short cut and buy a cooked chicken and use canned crushed tomatoes.  Here’s the recipe from Food Network’s web site.  http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ina-garten/chicken-chili-recipe/index.html.  While, I left it simmering on the stove, I took down the Christmas tree at last.  It was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon and yes, I was in the warmth of my home.

The cold weather brings out my need for comfort – warmth, turtlenecks, soup, baking – what does it bring out in you?

Welcome to my blog.

I am hoping to provide a breath of fresh air and help people to find and try their creativity.  I love baking, reading, and doing paper projects.  I’ve also recently discovered a passion for photography that I am hoping to further explore in 2009.  I find inspiration in so many different things and want to share that with people.  I work full time and follow my creativity during “off time.”  I’ll share favorites here, great services to help you have more time for your passion and general information.  I hope you enjoy and come back soon and visit.

Enjoy the week and why not try try something new this week to reclaim your creativity?
