Just dropping by with a quick post for Monday.  I have the day off today and am home this morning while the plumber is here.  It’s a beautiful fall day here in New England.  The weather is just starting to get that crisp fall feel in the air, which here in New England is a little late this year.

I love this time of the year.  Pumpkins, wonderful fall colors, jeans and sweaters, my favorite out of work outfit along with yummy pumpkin bread and caramel apples.  There’s a local candy store  that sells caramel apples now with all sorts of fun flavors.  One of my favorites is the toffee caramel apple as I love all things both toffee and caramel.  Yummy.  One thing I don’t like is that the days are getting shorter and it’s getting dark out earlier and earlier.  So, what do you do to celebrate fall?

Enjoy this fall day and wherever you are I hope you find something that sparks your creativity or gives you inspiration today.  Thanks for stopping by.

An A Musing Day January 18, 2010

Yesterday, I spent the day with fellow A Muse stamp addicts from Massachusetts and New Hampshire for my second time.  We met at Ink About It in Westford, MA.  It was a fun-filled day with friends (new and old), laughs and lots of creativity and stamping going on for five hours.  We did a shoebox project swap, where we bring the supplies for everyone to do your project and we pass them around the tables.  I was lucky enough to get to make 22 out of 23 cards.  All that creativity was inspiring.

I decided to do my project for Valentine’s Day and what’s Valentine’s Day without chocolate?  So, I decided to do a Hershey’s chocolate bar candy wrapper for Valentine’s Day.  What a fun, quick and easy gift to give to your friend, co-worker or neighbor.  My sister did this at Christmas, so I “borrowed” her idea.  Special thanks to Linda and Amy C. for coordinating another fun gathering of the New England A Muse addicts.

Supplies:   A Muse stamps, sheer red ribbon and heart twinkle bling.  I used stripped paper I got at Michael’s from GCD Studios and Red Carpet Bazzil Bling card stock,  Art Institute ultra fine glitter (True Red, Hot Kiss) and Chalk Ink in Chestnut Brown.  I cut the paper into 6″x6″ squares and trimmed 1/4″ off so that it would fit the candy bar and scored at 1 1/2″ and 4 1/4″ and used adhesive to close the wrapper.  I used two heart punches for the tag.

I ended this wonderful, creative day with dinner in Boston with two very close friends.  We couldn’t believe we finally were able to connect since we’ve tried for months to get all three of us together.  It was wonderful food, great conversation, but most important was the time spent with friends.  What a great way to spend a Sunday in January.  How did you spend your Sunday and remember to do something creative this week.

I’m heading to Vermont this weekend for a relaxing, crafting fun weekend.  Can’t wait to see some late foliage, get some Christmas cards designed and made as well as some holiday gifts.  Staying at the Whte House Inn in Wilmington, Vermont, which is an area of Vermont that I have not been to before.  I can’t wait to meet some new people and get some serious, uninterrupted creative time in.  Please check back in the next week or so for updates on my crafting Vermont weekend for pictures of some of my creations and recap of my visit.  Can’t wait to share with you.  Until then, do something creative today.

Creative Road Trip February 16, 2009

I had a fun weekend.  Even though it was cold, the sun was out and it’s amazing what seeing the sun for a few days in a row will do for you.  Some of the snow has melted and no storms this weekend.  In order to help some local scrapbooking businesses during a slow time, 12 local scrapbook stores in the area got together and put together a Shop Hop Pass that you purchase.  You visit all the stores during January and February and get a 20% discount.  If you visit all stores and turn your Pass in by the end of February, you’re entered into a drawing for gift certificates to the participating stores.  What a great way to support local businesses and at the same time you’re able to save some money, see new stores and meet other people that love crafts.

So with the weather on my side, I got up on Saturday and visited four stores.  It was great to have the sun out, be in the car on a drive that gave me time to think.  The furthest store was over an hour away, but I mapped out the route and did a loop.  My Google directions were pretty accurate.  Two of the stores I visited had classes going on, so it was fun to see what they were doing.

I picked up a couple of new things, got some ideas for cards and saw products that I hadn’t seen before.  Each store had a unique feeling and set up and while products were similar at each store, they each had different patterns, styles and product lines.  Staff and customers at the stores were very friendly and helpful and I got to talk to people who share my love of paper crafting.  I also got to try a new product at one of the stores that was doing a make and take that was pretty cool.   What a fun way to spend the day.

The next time you are feeling stumped or the creative juices aren’t flowing, why not try something different and go to an area or store that is either close by or a little drive (within an hour) that you normally don’t go to.  Maybe sign up and take a class just for fun.  You never know what you might find and maybe you might even make a new friend, find that item that you were looking for or just went for a ride in the car to give you some thinking time.
